LegCo 1st meeting: Gov't moved motion on follow-up work of Tai Po fire

At the first meeting of the new Legislative Council, the government moved a motion regarding support and follow-up work following the fire at Wang Fook Court in Tai Po. 

Chief Executive John Lee said the government will propose five improvement measures, including amendments to several ordinances.

Lee said that the fire reflects the need for systemic reform in Hong Kong after many years.

He said the government will strengthen the Buildings Ordinance, enhance the regulatory system for large-scale building maintenance works, deepen audits, and increase penalties for violations by registered personnel and contractors.
