Hong Kong recorded a severe paediatric influenza infection case, involving a six-month-old boy who is now in a critical condition.
The Centre for Health Protection said the male infant developed a fever and malaise on January 7 and was brought to a private clinic on the same day.
He subsequently developed shortness of breath and decrease feeding two days later and was admitted to the Princess Margaret Hospital on the following day.
His respiratory specimen tested positive for influenza A virus.
A preliminary investigation indicates the baby boy has not received a flu jab and had no travel history during the incubation period.
