The Foreign Ministry has warned the US against slapping extra tariffs on countries that do business with Iran. US President Donald Trump said in a social media post that any country doing business with Iran, which includes China and Russia, among others, would face a 25 percent tariff on trade. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said today that China's position on the issue of tariffs is crystal clear. There is no winner in a tariff war, and China will firmly safeguard its legitimate and lawful rights and interests. The US has threatened to take military action against Iran if they hear that security forces target civilian protesters. The spokesperson said China hopes for and supports Iran in maintaining national stability. "We have consistently opposed interference in other countries' internal affairs and opposed the use or threat of force in international relations," said Mao. "We hope all parties will do something conducive to peace and stability in the Middle East."
