Wang Yi meets with Sri Lankan foreign minister Vijitha Herath on deepening ties

Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with his Sri Lankan counterpart Vijitha Herath during a brief stopover while on his way back from Africa.
During the meeting, he said the two sides can strengthen regional cooperation oriented toward South Asia and work together to promote a more just and equitable global governance system.
Wang said China has extended a helping hand to the South Asian country at the earliest opportunity to cope with the recent devastating cyclone.
He reaffirmed readiness to enhance exchanges of governance experience with Sri Lanka while facilitating people-to-people exchanges.
The foreign minister also highlighted Beijing's commitment to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries to jointly oppose the resurgence of the "law of the jungle."
Echoing his call for multilateralism, Herath pledged to boost communication and coordination with Beijing.
Herath added Sri Lanka firmly adheres to the one-China principle and supports China's efforts to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
