The government is planning to set up bollards outside Sogo Department store and on Paterson Street, in order to prevent vehicles from deliberately ramming into crowds. The work is expected to begin as early as the third quarter of this year, with completion time in the fourth quarter. Discussion papers for the Wan Chai District Council showed the Police Force, the Highways Department and the Transport Department are planning to install bollards in Causeway Bay. The estimated cost is around five million dollars. The bollards will be installed at the crossing in front of the Sogo Department Store, and at Paterson Street. Authorities explained that the pedestrian traffic in those two areas are often at a very high level, so the measure is urgent and necessary.
