US President Donald Trump posted a photo of himself with the label: "Acting President of Venezuela".

This more than a week after US forces seized Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, with his deputy, Delcy Rodriguez, subsequently appointed as Interim President.

Trump also said he may block Exxon from investing in Venezuela. He's also pressuring Cuba to strike a deal with the US or be denied Venezuelan oil supplies.

Trump posted a photo and an extract of a biography on his Truth Social platform on Sunday, declaring him to be acting president of Venezuela.

The photo looked similar to a Wikipedia format, although his actual Wikipedia page does not mention Venezuela.

US forces seized Maduro from his home in Caracas on January 3, and took him to New York, where he is facing narco-terrorism charges.

Rodriguez, meanwhile, said Venezuela is at a critical juncture and national unity is crucial.

She called on Venezuelans to trust the government, saying it needs to maintain its political power to protect the country.

Trump has encouraged US oil companies to invest in Venezuela's largely dilapidated oil industry, but may block Exxon.

He said he did not like Exxon CEO Darren Woods' negativity when he met top oil companies executives on Friday, encouraging them to spend 100 billion US dollars to revive the sector.

Woods said the company twice had its assets seized by Venezuela and is owed billions of dollars.

He added the country needs to change its laws to offer better protection for oil companies.

Trump is also pressuring Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel to make a deal with the US "before it's too late".

He said Cuba has long bought Venezuelan oil at a discount in return for security services and the US will put a halt to this.

Diaz-Canel posted on social media that Cuba is a free, independent and sovereign nation.

He pointed out that Cuba has been attacked by the US for the past 66 years and they are prepared to defend its territory with every last drop of Cuban blood.

Dozens of Cuban security personnel was killed when the US military seized Maduro.

Cuba's Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez criticised the US actions as those of a criminal and an out-of-control hegemon and that they had the absolute right to import fuel from any willing exporter.
