The Civil Aviation Department, together with multiple departments and the Hong Kong Garrison of the People’s Liberation Army, conducted a search-and-rescue exercise.

The exercise took place in waters near Mong Tung Wan, Lantau Island, simulating a helicopter carrying three people crashing into the sea. A Fire Services fireboat responded to the report and arrived to fight the fire,
and deployed a drone to search for survivors.

A PLA helicopter assisted and personnel entered the water to rescue people, airlifting the survivors onto the helicopter.

The Police Force also dispatched personal watercraft to the shore to assess the condition of a second injured person, who was then rescued by the Government Flying Service.

Fire Services divers rescued a third survivor,
and a dive-support speedboat transferred the injured person to the fireboat.

The Civil Aviation Department said the purpose of the exercise was to facilitate technical exchanges among the various search-and-rescue units, enabling an efficient response in the event of an incident.
