Mitigation hearing begins for former media tycoon Jimmy Lai

A Hong Kong court on Monday started hearing the mitigation plea of the onetime media tycoon Jimmy Lai.

The court convicted Lai of conspiring with others to collude with foreign forces and conspiracy to publish seditious articles in December.

The hearing started at West Kowloon Law Courts at 10 a.m.

The three-judge panel: Alex Lee, Esther Toh and Susana Maria D'Almada Remedios will hear the mitigation of Lai alongside eight other defendants,
which includes six of his ex-Apple Daily colleagues.

The hearing will last for four days.

Sentencing will come later.
