The government is collecting opinions from residents of Wang Fuk Court on long-term resettlement options following the deadly fire.

Deputy Financial Secretary Michael Wong said the government's current plan is not to rebuild on its original site, nor will it construct any new residential buildings there.

He also indicated that if the government were to purchase all ownership rights to Wang Fuk Court, the amount involved would be approximately HK$6 billion.

The government has distributed questionnaires to Wang Fuk Court owners to collect their long-term resettlement preferences, covering multiple options, including redevelopment in the original Tai Po area.

There are three possible sites: West of Chung Nga Road, Kwong Fuk Park, and the original site of Wang Fuk Court.

Deputy Financial Secretary Michael Wong Wai-lun, who is also the head of the emergency accommodation arrangements working group, revealed that the government currently does not plan to construct any new residential buildings on the original site of Wang Fuk Court, but rather to renovate it into community facilities.

He said everyone understands that unfortunate events have occurred there, and legal matters alone may take several years to handle.
