Venezuela's interior minister said that at least 100 people were killed during Saturday's attack by the U.S. in which Nicolas Maduro was captured.

This as pro-government supporters continue to rally in Caracas demanding the return of Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores.

Meanwhile U.S. President Donald Trump spoke with his Colombian counterpart who suggested a meeting between Colombia, the U.S. and interim Venezuelan president Delcy Rodrigues.

Portraits of Venezuelan hero Simon Bolivar, late president Hugo Chavez and deposed President Nicolas Maduro hang as a backdrop to the television address made by Venezuelan Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello. He tells the viewers, "Venezuela was victim of a barbaric attack where until now there have been 100 deaths and a similar amount of wounded. It was a terrible attack against our country."

Moments before his comments interim president Delcy Rodriguez held a meeting with lawmakers. "I would like to welcome a new political era for our country, a political era in which we have the highest awareness of what Venezuela's sovereignty means. Our territorial integrity and national independence, which are the highest virtues of a republic," Rodriguez said.

This as pro-government supporters continue to rally in the country's capital Wednesday demanding the return of deposed president Nicolas Maduro and his wife Ceilia Flores. This banner reads 'Free Maduro.' In a quieter corner of Caracas, this resident said, "What I advise my compatriots to do in a situation like this is to truly hold ourselves in rational balance."

A rally also in neighbouring Colombia with the country's President Gustavo Petro who told the crowd he had invited Trump for a private meeting but instead the pair decided to hold talks in Washington. Trump spoke with him on Wednesday, the Colombian leader told his supporters.

Petro also said he had called for a three-way meeting between Colombia, the U.S. and interim Venezuelan President Delcy Rodriguez

Trump released a statement on social media calling it a 'Great Honor' to speak with Petro. "I appreciate his call and tone, and look forward to meeting him in the near future," Trump said.
