Authorities in Beijing have slapped new export controls of dual-use products to Tokyo, in reaction to an early November remark by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi about Taiwan. Dual-use items are goods, software or technologies that have both civilian and military applications, including certain rare earth materials essential for the production of drones and chips. A statement issued by the commerce ministry on Tuesday said the ban on exports of these made-in-China items to military users or for any purposes that could enhance Tokyo's military strength comes into effect immediately. It added organisations or individuals from any country or region would be held legally liable for transferring or providing such products to Japanese groups and people.
