Weeks after the deadly fire in Wang Fuk Court in November, the Tai Po district council convened its first meeting of the year this morning. The conference discussed the follow-up work on the fire. At 9:30 a.m., Tai Po district council members and representatives of the government departments gathered for the meeting. A minute of silence was observed to mourn the victims of the deadly blaze in Wang Fuk Court. Peggy Wong of the DAB party, also the former consultant to Wang Fuk Court's owners' corporation, was among the attendees. During the meeting, most members raised questions about the long-term relocation plan of Wang Fuk Court residents, saying authorities should provide a clear timeline for the community as to when they can be properly settled. Meanwhile, some urged the government to offer resettlement options for displaced residents to choose from. A Planning Department representative said that authorities had collected a range of opinions regarding the restoration, and that authorities will study the suggestions to find a solution that will be the best for the community. The entire meeting lasted about two and a half hours. Another discussion topic was the establishment of a work team focusing on building management.
