Some media outlets report that a number of fire victims from Wang Fuk Court who were temporarily relocated to youth hostels were notified that they would need to move out later this month -- around two weeks after checking in.

The Home and Youth Affairs Bureau says it will assist those affected in transitioning as soon as possible.

Following the deadly blaze, eight residential blocks at Wang Fuk Court remain cordoned off.

A bureau spokesperson says hostel operators will handle cases on a discretionary basis for victims who are unable to move into transitional housing after January 31st.

The bureau adds that the government last month announced a rent subsidy of 150 thousand dollars per year for each homeowner affected in the fire.

They say it had made clear at the time that the accommodation arrangements involving hotels and youth hostels would depend on room availability by operators.

With multiple residents having moved out, authorities say hostel operators will resume accepting applications from the public.
