Tonight sees the first supermoon of the year.

Missing this, stargazers will have to wait several more months -- until November -- to spot the next supermoon.

The best viewing time for our New Year supermoon is after 6 p.m. on Saturday with the best viewing angle -- going from the west towards the east.

A supermoon generally occurs when the moon's full phase coincides with its close approach to Earth.

During these events, the orb can look up to 14 percent larger than a micromoon -- which is the supermoon's farthest and faintest counterpart.

2026 is set to see three appearances of the supermoon.

Also gracing the skies around Sunday early morning are meteor showers -- also the first of the year.
