US President Donald Trump said that Washington had ordered a hit on an area in Venezuela where boats are loaded with drugs. This would be the first known time the US has carried out land operations in the South American country since a pressure campaign began against President Nicolas Maduro's government. "There was a major explosion in the dock area where they load the boats up with drugs," claimed Trump. "We hit all the boats, and now we hit the area...it's the implementation area." Asked if the CIA had carried out the attack, Trump refused to get into details. This strike targeted a remote dock that the US believed was being used by the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua to store dugs and move them onto boats. The US mission has primarily focused on military strikes against suspected drug trafficking vessels and has prompted intense oversight from the US Congress. At least 100 people have been killed in more than 20 strikes in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific.
