Many Hongkongers travelled over the Christmas holiday period.
Immigration figures show more than 4.84 million passenger trips were recorded across all control points from last Thursday to Sunday, with over 3.63 million being Hong Kong residents.
This year's Christmas public holidays coincided with the weekend, making a four-day break sufficient for travel.
Outbound trips peaked on Christmas Day with nearly 800,000 people leaving the city.
Yesterday was the busiest day for arrivals, seeing 730,000 inbound trips.
Some bar owners said revenue had risen by 10 percent year-on-year over Christmas, and are anticipating a further boost on New Year's Eve.
