Foreign Minister Wang Yi meets with Thai and Cambodian counterparts

Thailand and Cambodia reached a ceasefire agreement yesterday over their border clashes. The foreign ministers of both countries were invited to Yunnan for two days of trilateral talks with the Chinese side.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in the morning in Chengjiang, Yunnan with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn.

Thailand’s foreign minister, Sihasak Phuangketkeow, will attend another meeting in the afternoon, and a three-way meeting will be held on Monday.

The Foreign Ministry earlier said that China is willing to facilitate more comprehensive and concrete communication between the two countries, continuing to provide a platform and create favorable conditions.

The Thai and Cambodian defense ministers earlier signed a ceasefire agreement, with the truce taking effect from noon on Saturday local time.

Since the beginning of this month, Thailand and Cambodia have again seen border clashes, with more than a hundred civilians and soldiers killed on both sides and about one million people displaced.
