As the Christmas long holiday draws to a close, the Immigration Department expects today to be the peak for arrivals. As of 10 a.m., about 76,000 people had already entered Hong Kong.

At the West Kowloon high-speed rail station, many residents had already arrived in the morning. The Immigration Department earlier projected that today would be the peak day for land-border arrivals, estimating around 695,000 entries.

According to the government, waiting times at all land boundary control points are currently at normal levels.

Authorities are urging residents and travelers to plan their trips in advance and avoid crossing during peak hours. Some residents said they deliberately cut their trips short to return to Hong Kong earlier in hopes of avoiding the homebound crowds.
