Southern California in the United States has been hit by a winter storm, leaving at least three people dead. California Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency in six counties, including Los Angeles.

Some areas of California have recently experienced strong winds and heavy rain. Parts of roads have collapsed, and crews have been dispatched for emergency repairs. Meteorological authorities say the region may see its wettest Christmas. In areas previously ravaged by wildfires, the loss of trees has reduced the land’s ability to absorb water, increasing the risk of mudslides.

Local media reported that a man in San Diego was crushed to death by a large tree on Wednesday. In addition, in Sacramento, the state capital, a police officer died in a traffic accident, which is suspected to be related to the severe weather. Authorities say another storm is expected to hit California, potentially bringing thunderstorms and showers.
