Workplace-related deaths rose by 55 percent year-on-year

As of yesterday, the Association for the Rights of Industrial Accident Victims recorded at least 118 workplace-related deaths throughout this year, that's a year-on-year rise of over 55 percent.
Some of the most prominent cases include the five construction workers, ten foreign domestic helpers and one firefighter that perished during the Wang Fuk Court fire.
Findings by the organisation indicated that close to half of all fatalities involved the construction sector, 16 cases involved foreign imported labourers, while 11 cases involved the logistics sector.
The organisation's director-general said authorities should boost education on workplace safety and step up patrols around large construction sites in the near future.
