Trump set to build new Golden Fleet of warships

U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a bold plan for the Navy to build a new, large warship that he is calling a battleship as part of a larger vision to create a 'Golden Fleet'.
The battleship's primary weapons will be missiles, instead of large naval guns.
During an announcement at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, Trump unveiled his new so-called "Trump class" battleship he says will be the fastest, the biggest and 100 times more powerful than any other battleship ever built.
He said: "Welcome to Mar-a-Lago for this exciting announcement of the new Golden Fleet. We're calling it the Golden Fleet that we're building for the United States Navy. As you know, we're desperately in need of ships. Our ships are - some of them have gotten old and tired and obsolete and we're going to go the exact opposite direction."
"As Commander-in-Chief, it's my great honour to announce that I have approved a plan for the Navy to begin the construction of two brand-new, very large - the largest we've ever built - battleships."
"You know, you used to build the Iowa, the Missouri, the Wisconsin, the Alabama, and many others. We had big battleships - these are bigger. But they will have 100 times the - they'll be 100 times the force, the power. And there's never been anything like these ships. These have been under design consideration for a long time," Trump said.
The fleet will begin with two vessels and is expected to grow between 20 and 25 ships.
Trump has previously criticised the appearance of U.S. warships and said he was personally involved in the new designs.
Some U.S. officials have warned that a failure to build new battleships in recent years has handed an advantage to economic and military rival China.
