The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has barred approvals of new types of drones and components made by Chinese drone giant DJI for import or sale in the country. DJI, Autel Robotics and all other foreign-made drones have been added to Washington's so-called "Covered List" of entities deemed to pose national security risk in unauthorised surveillance and sensitive data exfiltration. The designation does not prohibit the import, sale or use of existing approved device models, nor will it impact any previously purchased drones. DJI, the world's largest dronemaker, says it's disappointed by the FCC's decision. Beijing has voiced firm opposition to the discriminatory lists and blasted the US for overstretching the concept of national security and unreasonably suppressing Chinese companies. A Foreign Ministry spokesman called for a fair, just, and non-discriminatory business environment.
