US President Donald Trump on Sunday appointed Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry as his special envoy to Greenland. The move has drawn renewed criticism from the Danish and Greenlandic governments. Landry thanked the president on social media and said it's an honour to serve in the volunteer position "to make Greenland a part of the US." And the work would not affect his position as governor of Louisiana, he said. Danish foreign minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen noted he was particularly upset by the appointment of a special envoy, saying this was totally unacceptable. Rasmussen added he will summon the US ambassador as he demanded respect for the kingdom's territorial integrity. The Prime Minister of Greenland also posted that Trump's decision does not change anything for them because the Greenlanders will decide their own future.
