New Kowloon route opens

The first section of the Central Kowloon Route opened this morning. At 10 a.m., the eastern entrance/exit of Shing Kai Road at the Yau Ma Tei section welcomed the first wave of traffic.

Several private cars and taxis were the first to try out the new road section.

The Central Kowloon Route connects the West Kowloon Yau Ma Tei Interchange and the East Kowloon Kai Tak Interchange, each with multiple entrances and exits. After opening, the travel time from Yau Ma Tei to Kowloon Bay during peak hours can be shortened from 30 minutes to about 5 minutes. Starting tomorrow, eight franchised bus routes will use the route during peak hours. The Central Kowloon Route cost HK$42.3 billion and took eight years to build.
