A heart-breaking story of seven dead elephants in India. Killed in a collision with a train.

The train stopped in its tracks in the northeast. Huge pits had to be dug at the sides of the railway line to bury the dead mammals.

Bulldozers put dirt over the animals that are registered as an endangered species.

This wasn't a designated elephant corridor. The driver spotted the herd of about one hundred and applied the emergency brakes. The train still hit some of the animals as six carriages derailed.

None of the six hundred passengers were injured.
