The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) busted an unlicensed cold storage facility in Yuen Long, seizing over 10,000 kilograms of frozen meat with an estimated market value of about HK$800,000. The seized frozen meat, totaling over 10,000 kilograms, includes 272 kilograms of chilled chicken, as well as refrigerated pork. All of it was supplied to Hong Kong from the mainland and came with health certificates. The department said the unlicensed cold storage facility, located in Pat Heung, Yuen Long, is believed to have been operating for about half a year. Following last night’s operation, the FEHD has destroyed the 270 kilograms of chilled poultry that was improperly stored and unsuitable for consumption. One person was arrested during the operation on suspicion of operating a counterfeit cold storage facility. Authorities are also investigating whether any of the frozen meat had entered the market.
