At a licensed pig farm in Lau Fau Shan, Yuen Long, pig samples tested positive for African swine fever. The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) is arranging to cull the pigs on the premises.

The farm involved has been closed, with multiple notices posted at the entrance, including a notice issued by the AFCD yesterday stating that the farm is infected with African swine fever, and ordering the detention and slaughter of the pigs.

The department said that on Wednesday it collected four pig samples from the farm for testing, all of which returned positive results for the African swine fever virus. An immediate ban has been imposed on transporting any pigs out of the farm until further notice. The department believes the case will not affect the operation of local slaughterhouses, nor the overall supply of live pigs.
