Beijing has imposed sanctions on Shigeru Iwasaki, former chief of staff of Japan's Self-Defense Forces, on grounds that he had colluded with the separatist forces in Taiwan and violated the one-China principle. Authorities on Monday laid out the countermeasures including visa restrictions, freezing Iwasaki's assets and property within China, and prohibiting any transactions or cooperation with him. The Foreign Ministry accused him of breaching the spirit of political consensus between China and Japan and said he seriously interfered in China's internal affairs. It comes after Beijing lodged a protest over Iwasaki's appointment as an honourary advisor to Taiwan's Executive Yuan.
