Budget consultation to start

Public consultation for a new Budget is about to begin.

In a blog post, the Financial Secretary Paul Chan said the consultation will focus on how to further broaden the scope and areas of economic development,
accelerate the cultivation and application of innovation and technology, speed up the optimisation of the industrial structure, create more high-quality jobs, and add momentum for high-quality development.

Chan noted that Hong Kong’s merchandise exports have recorded double-digit year-on-year growth this year. Coupled with improving local demand, private consumption expenditure has inched up. Even in the face of external uncertainties, Hong Kong’s economy continues to develop steadily.

In recent months, financial institutions and major e-commerce platforms have successively leased or purchased multi-floor commercial spaces, and even entire commercial buildings, in Hong Kong—reflecting positive market expectations for the future.
He called on the public to put forward more concrete proposals during the Budget consultation.
