The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government held a Nanjing Massacre National Memorial Day ceremony to commemorate the 88th anniversary of the Nanjing Massacre. Chief Executive John Lee attended the ceremony, and he led those present in a moment of silence. Lee then laid a wreath for the war victims, bowed in respect, and signed a commemorative book. In attendance too were Zhou Ji, Director of Beijing's Liaison Office in Hong Kong, former Chief Executives and senior officials as well as student representatives. During the Second World War, Japan killed about 300,000 people in Nanjing.
