Nobel Peace Prize winner's daughter to accept award on her behalf

The head of the Nobel Institute said Peace Prize winner Maria Corina Machado will not attend the awards ceremony in Oslo on Wednesday.

Institute director Kristian Berg Harpviken told public broadcaster NRK the Venezuelan opposition leader was not in the Norwegian capital on the day of the ceremony and her daughter will accept the prize on Machado's behalf.

Venezuela's government chief negotiator and National Assembly president Jorge Rodriguez, slammed on Tuesday the Nobel Peace Prize to be awarded Wednesday to opposition leader Maria Corina Machado.

"Poor peace, poor Nobel Prize, which is awarded to a person who calls for the invasion of Venezuela", Rodriguez said.
