In the U.S., opponents of Missouri's new congressional map submitted thousands of signatures calling for a statewide referendum on a redistricting plan backed by President Donald Trump. Organisers say they turned in some 300,000 signatures, well over the 110,000 needed to suspend the districts from taking effect until a public vote. And Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker has signed a law protecting immigrants against arrest near courthouses, in hospitals, on college campuses or in day care facilities. The law is in response to the Trump administration's crackdown on immigration in the Chicago area. (Dec 9)
