News commentator Wong Kwok-ngon, has been remanded in custody for allegedly violating the national security law.

The 71-year-old is accused of publishing seditious content and disclosing probe details.

The next hearing is set for January 20.

Wong Kwok-ngon, widely known by his pen name Wong On-yin, was taken to West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts today.

He chose to defend himself in court without a lawyer.

The prosecutor said Wong divulged details of a meeting with the police on YouTube, the day after he was invited to Mong Kok Police Station.

Wong was also charged with "publishing publications that had a seditious intention" on social media between January 3 and December 6.

His remarks on the Tai Po fire allegedly incite hatred towards the government.

Each of the two counts are subject to seven years imprisonment.

Chief Magistrate Victor So dismissed Wong's bail application.
