United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned Israel's unauthorised entry into the UN Sheikh Jarrah compound, held by the UN relief agency for Palestinians, located in occupied East Jerusalem.

Meanwhile, a spokeswoman for Israel's government said the country's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will meet with US President Donald Trump at the end of the month.

Philippe Lazzarini, the Commisioner General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, said Israeli police, accompanied by Jerusalem municipal officials, forcibly entered the UNRWA compound.

The UNRWA head said allowing such a violation creates a dangerous precedent anywhere else the UN is present across the world.

A statmement by United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres criticising Israel's actions was read out by his spokesman Stephane Dujarric at a daily briefing.

Dujarric said: "The Secretary-General urges Israel to immediately take all necessary steps to help restore, preserve and uphold the inviolability of UNRWA premises and refrain from taking any further action with regard to UNRWA premises, in line with Israel's obligations under the Charter of the UN and its other obligations under international law, including those concerning privileges and immunities of the United Nations."

The East Jerusalem compound has not been used since the beginning of the year. This, in the wake of Israeli authorities ordering the agency to vacate all of its premises and halt operations inside Israel.

Israel barred the UNRWA from operating on its soil after claiming some employees had participated in the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on October 7th, 2023.

That allegation was denied by the UNRWA.

In October the International Court of Justice found that Israel's allegation against the UNRWA was unsubstantiated.

The Israeli local government said tax officials entered the premises because the UNRWA had long failed to pay property taxes to Israel.

Spokeswoman Shosh Bedrosian said: "UNRWA has proven its enormous failures and it's time for it to be dismantled, and it's time for the world to recognise that, including journalists as well. UNRWA continues to claim there's also not enough humanitarian aid going inside of the Gaza Strip."

"If you look at the facts there are hundreds of trucks entering Gaza on a daily basis, there are thousands of trucks entering Gaza on a weekly basis."

Spokeswoman Bedrosian also announced Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will meet with US President Donald Trump at the end of the month.

She said they will "discuss the future steps and phases and the international stabilisation force of the ceasefire plan between Israel and Hamas."
