Many freshly-elected legislators said they would follow-up on the aftermath of the Tai Po fire. The Legislative Council's new term begins on January 1st.

Incumbent and newly-elected members of the Legislative Council gathered together for the first time after the polling day. The new faces include Cheung Pui-kong from the Kowloon East Constituency, and Vivian Kong representing the tourism sector.

In his speech, Legco President Andrew Leung reminded the newly-elected members to collaborate with the government to handle the aftermath of the Tai Po fire.

Seven existing lawmakers and four newcomers also delivered speeches, and many said they would follow-up on the tragedy.

Among them was Aaron Bok, the elected member of the engineering sector.

He said that safety is the foundation of a city's development, which is also the "bottom line" of engineering and related professions.

Elected finance lawmaker, Chan Chun-ying, said that he believes the government will implement a series of reforms to tackle the issues arise from the fire.

Chan said those reforms must be scrutinised by Legco.

Forty of the 90 legislators of the eighth term are new to Legco.

Chong Ho-fung from the Roundtable secured his seat in the New Territories North West geographical constituency with 34,000 votes. Chong said the party's outspoken spirit remains the same inside out.
