US President Donald Trump said Washington will allow Nvidia to ship its H200 artificial intelligence chips to "approved customers" in China. This, on the condition that 25% of the chip sales will be paid to the US government. There have been concerns in the US about allowing advanced computer chips to be sold to China as it could help the country become more competitive in the field of artificial intelligence. However, there has also been a desire to develop the AI ecosystem with American companies such as chipmaker Nvidia. The chip, known as the H200, is not Nvidia's most advanced product. Those chips, called Blackwell and the upcoming Rubin, were not part of what Trump approved. Trump said he had informed Chinese President Xi Jinping about his decision. He said "President Xi responded positively." The Chinese Foreign Ministry praised the move. It said China always believes Beijing and Washington "can achieve mutual benefit through co-operation."
