Australia this week will begin enforcing a world-first social media ban for children under the age of 16 years old. The ban will come into effect December 10. This as Denmark is set to follow suit, after its government announced last month that it had secured an agreement to ban access to social media for anyone under 15. The Danish plans could become law by mid-2026, but some school students and experts are worried. Children and teens are used to accessing platforms such as Snapchat, TikTok and Instagram but are aware of the negative sides to social media from cyberbullying to unsuitable graphic content. The government proposal would give some parents -after a specific assessment - the right to let their children access social media from age 13.
