Chief Executive John Lee and several officials cast their LegCo election ballots in the morning. Lee said that voting today is an important vote to drive reforms.

The Chief Executive, John Lee, and his wife arrived at the polling station at King's College, which is in the Hong Kong Island West constituency, at 8:30 a.m. They held up their ballots for the media to photograph, then placed the ballots into the ballot box. Polling staff immediately presented them with thank-you cards.

Lee said that for the new Legislative Council, the priority is the follow-up and reconstruction work related to the fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, including pushing institutional reforms and pursuing accountability, and he appealed to voters to cast their ballots.

“The Legislative Council has a lot of powers,” said Lee. “We must cooperate with the Legislative Council—for example, in vetting funding and making new laws—so that together we can fill and block the loopholes in the current system. Today's vote is important. It is a vote for all of us to push reforms, to protect the disaster victims, to unite our strength, and to move forward together.”

Chief Secretary for Administration Eric Chan went to a polling station in Fo Tan, Sha Tin, to vote. He said the voting process was smooth and he was satisfied with the arrangements at the polling station. “Although today's polling hours run until 11:30 p.m., based on our past experience, there are usually more people in the evening,” said Chan. “So if you don't want to queue and want to save time, we hope you'll come out earlier to vote. Of course, we have not set any preset target for voter turnout.”

Financial Secretary Paul Chan cast his ballot at the Wong Chuk Hang Sports Centre polling station.

Secretary for Justice Paul Lam and his wife voted at a polling station at The Peak.

Before inspecting polling stations, Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Erick Tsang also went to vote at Taikoo Shing.
