Tomorrow is the deadline for all scaffolding nettings on buildings under renovation to be taken down, as mandated by the government on Wednesday.

However, the construction sector has doubts on whether it can be done by Saturday.

The order applies to some 200 private buildings and 10 public projects across the city.

The owners' corporation of Sui Wo Court in Sha Tin has already applied to the government for an extension.

Meanwhile, a scaffolding workers' union said there are some 3,000 registered scaffolding workers in Hong Kong, but not all of them can be deployed immediately for the removal work.

Chairman of the Hong Kong and Kowloon Bamboo Scaffolding Workers Union, Ho Ping-tak, doubted if the construction industry will be able to meet the government deadline, citing a labour shortage of at least 1,000.
