The process of removing scaffold netting has began after the government ordered all of them to be pulled down by Saturday. The Housing Department said they have finished removing nets at 15 public estates. Investigations continue after suspected forged safety certificates for scaffolding mesh were found at Fortress Garden in North Point and Fung Wah estate in Chai Wan. Workers began dismantling scaffolding nettings at Fung Wah estate in Chai Wan this morning. The removed nettings were placed in a skip by the roadside. The government said last night that the safety certificates for scaffolding nettings used in Fung Wah estate are suspected to be fraudulent. Some residents were shocked. This worried man questioned why the government was not aware of the problematic netting in the first place. He hopes officials could promptly follow up on the matter -- in their capacity as gatekeepers. This man came to visit his father who lives here. He said he felt more comfortable to have the nettings taken down. "Life always comes before money. I don't mind paying more for repair works if better qualilty materials are used," said this resident. Notices are posted in the housing estate informing residents that the owners' corporation has appointed an independent accredited testing centre to examine the flame-retarding performance of the scaffolding netting. The police, in the meantime, collected four samples of nettings from Hiu Fung House and Sau Fung House for testing. The Housing Department also came to the estate for inspection and sampling. Meanwhile, workers contined to take down scaffolding nettings from buildings at Sui Wo Court in Sha Tin. The order to immediately remove scaffolding netting by the Development Bureau applies to around 200 private buildings and 10 public projects.Contractors have to bear the costs.
