Secretary for Security Chris Tang slammed The Wall Street Journal after the paper ran an editorial on the Tai Po fire.
Titled "No fire critics allowed in Hong Kong," the article accused the SAR government for seeking to "chill speech" related to the fire, including detaining a student who launched a petition that called for government accountability.
Tang wrote a letter to the editor, saying that the authorities' uppermost priority is to support affected residents -- something the commentary "conveniently ignores."
He reiterated that several arrests have been made and any attempts to sabotage the recovery work will be handled seriously.
