Secretary for Development Bernadette Linn has demanded all protective netting used on renovation sites across the city to be removed by Saturday.

The order applies to around 200 private buildings and 10 public projects.

As substandard protective netting was found at Wang Fuk Court, Linn announced that protective netting must be taken down from all buildings under renovation in the next three days.

Contractors have to bear the costs.

She said the move aims to safeguard the public, and vowed to hunt down any contractors using substandard nets.

The Building Department plans to issue a new set of codes of practice next week, which will stipulate all protective nettings have to be sampled on-site before installation.

Meanwhile, the authorities are probing a Shandong-based firm that suspectedly used fraudulent safety certificates for its protective netting at Fortress Garden in North Point and Fung Wah Estate in Chai Wan.
