The Japanese prime minister told Japanese politicians today that her position on Taiwan remains unchanged.

When asked if her administration's stance is consistent with the Joint Statement signed by the Chinese and Japanese governments in 1972, Sanae Takaichi said there was no change to Japan's stance on Taiwan that the island is an inseperable part of the territory of the People's Republic of China.

In Beijing, the Taiwan Affairs Office criticised Takaichi for not retracting her earlier remarks regarding Taiwan, which sent a wrong signal to Taiwan Independence forces.

A spokesperson urged Japan to reflect on its responsibilities and commit to the one-China principle with concrete actions.
