British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has warned that China posed "national security threats" to Britain but defended his government's decision to step up engagement with the country, saying closer business ties were in the national interest.

China's ambassador to the UK said China firmly opposes the UK's remarks which spread so-called "China threats" and other unfounded accusations against the country which he says is interfering in China's internal affairs.

He said that the embassy hopes the UK will recognise the situation, correct its mindset, treat China's development rationally and amicably, pursue a positive and pragmatic policy towards China,
and work with China in the same direction.
