Pope Leo XIV has wrapped up his Turkey tour during his first apostolic journey and left for Lebanon, home to one of the Arab world's largest Christian communities.

The pontiff visited the Blue Mosque in Istanbul and met with Turkey's Christian leaders earlier on Saturday.

He celebrated a late afternoon Holy Mass welcoming some 4,000 Catholic faithful at the Volkswagen Arena where he pressed for interreligious unity.

Pope Leo also presided over a divine liturgy at the Patriarchal Church of Saint George on Sunday. His prayer at the Armenian Apostolic Cathedral comes at a time when Turkey and Armenia are attempting to reconcile and normalise their ties.

While in Lebanon, Leo will meet with church and government officials and appeal for peace. He is expected to send a message of hope to Lebanese amid Israeli airstrikes.
