Residents mourning fire deaths

A fatal, five-alarm fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po has drawn large numbers of citizens who continue to lay flowers near the scene to pay their respects.

In the park opposite Wang Fuk Court, people kept coming in the morning to mourn. The area was filled with fresh flowers and offerings; there were also toys and message cards in different languages to express condolences to the victims.

Some people could not hide their grief. A resident of Kwong Fuk Estate said that friends they had known for decades had sadly passed away, and they hoped the families would stay strong and carry on with life.

Local resident Mrs. Law said: "I know three of my friends have passed away. We looked over there and it was heartbreaking—the fire spread to that place. I didn’t even know they had died; later I tried calling them but couldn’t reach them, and then people told me they had passed away. I hope their family members take care of their health, live well, and keep going."
