Tea lovers have the chance to deepen their understanding of the nation's long-enduring tea culture in the new "Shape of Tea" exhibition held at the Flagstaff House Museum of Tea Ware.
Starting tomorrow, visitors can see a vast collection of tea ware dating from the Song dynasty to more modern designs celebrating the country's most famous drink.
Featuring 35 sets of priceless tea ware of various types, the "Shape of Tea" exhibition features collections spanning the Song dynasty, all the way back in the 10th century, to the modern era.
While many can enjoy being in the presence of such ancient ceramics, the event also puts a modern spin to attract those who prefer more contemporary artistic expressions.
Visitors at the Shape of Tea exhibition at the Flagstaff House Museum of Tea Ware will be able to take a closer look at rare Song-era relics such as this black dragon-themed cupstand contrasted with modern designs such as this bamboo tea box featuring Hong Kong's skyline.
Yan Yung, one of the artists who contributed to the modern collection, shared her inspiration of using the city's fallen trees to bring life to the ancient art form.
I have been thinking about how trees in Hong Kong are different from other places.
Actually, the trees grow in a curvy manner to meet the sunlight, and so their texture look very different.
In this exhibition, I also make some tea racks inspired by the Song dynasty to hold the tea ware, but still keeping a contemporary art angle.
This would allow the audience to find a linkage between the modern life and the old time.
The exhibition will be open to the public starting on Wednesday, with no end date announced as of now.
The organisers hope that the arrangement can encourage more residents to explore China's rich tea heritage.
