Secretary for Security Chris Tang said the government is starting the process of banning the operation of the so-called "Hong Kong Parliament" and "Hong Kong Democratic Independence Union" in the city. Tang said the groups aim to subvert state power.
Chris Tang said the Security Bureau had issued written notices to the so-called "Hong Kong Parliament" and "Hong Kong Democratic Independence Union," allowing them to make representations before any possible ban can be gazetted.
Under the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance, the two organisations will have seven days to make representations.
Tang said the groups want to split the country and subvert state power. Tang added that it would be unlawful for individuals to be associated with the organisations, including acting as members of the groups and taking part in their activities, if the government eventually ban their operation.
Authorities have issued arrest warrants for members of the so-called "Hong Kong Parliament,"with bounties placed on them.
Meanwhile, Tang said 29 people had been arrested on suspicion of vandalism related to the Legislative Council election.
