President Xi Jinping held phone call with Donald Trump, stressing benefits of cooperation

During a phone call between President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump last night, Xi said that the principle of "cooperation benefits both sides, while confrontation harms both" is a common-sense truth repeatedly proven by practice. 

Xi also emphasized that Taiwan's return to China is an important part of the post-war international order, and that both sides should jointly safeguard the achievements of the victory in World War II. 

Trump said the US understands the importance of the Taiwan issue to China. He also posted online that US-China relations are very strong and plans to visit China next April.

President Xi mentioned the successful meeting between the two sides in Busan, South Korea last month, where they reached many important consensuses. This consensus has calibrated the course and injected momentum into the steady progress of China-US relations, sending a positive signal to the world.

Xi also said since the Busan meeting, China-US relations have generally been stable and positive, widely welcomed by both countries and the international community. 

This once again demonstrates the principle that "cooperation benefits both sides, confrontation harms both" between China and the US. 

Xi mentioned that both sides should maintain this momentum, adhere to the correct direction, and uphold an attitude of equality, respect, and mutual benefit.

Regarding the Taiwan issue, Xi emphasized that Taiwan's return to China is an important component of the post-war international order. China and the US fought side-by-side against fascism and militarism, and should now work together to safeguard the fruits of victory in World War II.

Xinhua News Agency reported that Trump said the US understands the importance of the Taiwan issue to China, noting China's crucial role in the victory in World War II. 

Trump also said Xi Jinping is a great leader, and their meeting in Busan was very pleasant. He fully agrees with Xi Jinping's views on bilateral relations.

Trump posted online that he discussed fentanyl, soybeans, and agricultural products with Xi Jinping, adding that US-China relations are very strong and that both sides reached important agreements for farmers. 

Trump indicated that he accepted Xi Jinping's invitation to visit China next April, and that Xi Jinping will also make a state visit to the United States next year.
