A woman was arrested on suspicion of smuggling a cat across the border. The 56-year-old female tourist was entering the city via the Lo Wu Control Point when she was intercepted by customs officers, who subsequently found a live cat inside her backpack. The feline has an estimated value of 20,000 dollars, and was handed over to the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department for further investigation. The incident is the second cat smuggling case to take place at the same checkpoint within three days. According to the Rabies Regulation, individuals found smuggling animals could receive a maximum prison sentence of one year and a fine of up to 50,000 dollars.
